Jewelry Cleaning

Jewelry Cleaning

Wow, I feel like all of my cleaning attempts from Pinterest lately have been a bust. My jewelry wasn’t really dirty, but sometimes I take it in for no reason to the jewelers for a cleaning and then I notice a HUGE difference after the cleaning. My wedding ring just sparkles like starlight after a cleaning.
The directions are fairly simple for this.
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 tablespoon dish detergent
1 cup water
1 piece aluminum foil
Directions:
Heat water in the microwave for 1 or 2 minutes.
Cut a piece of aluminum foil that roughly covers the bottom of a small bowl (like a cereal bowl). Pour hot water into bowl. Place salt, soda, and dishwashing liquid into bowl. Place jewelry on top of foil and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse jewelry in cool water and dry jewelry completely with soft cloth. Discard solution after use and make a new batch next time. According to wire-sculpture.com, “this works well for gold-filled, brass, german (nickel) silver, and sterling silver. I cleaned my cameo ring and there was no damage.
I just didn’t notice any difference. Other than it stripping off the ‘grunge’ finish from a kind of crappy ring. No amazing sparkle, no gleam in the light, I definitely will not be doing this again.
I did notice the chemical reaction kicking in, and had high hopes, but I was doomed to disappointment!
Try at the risk of your own time.
